Northtowners just got another legit taco option with the opening of Deep South Taco at 6727 Transit, not too far from Main by Regal Cinemas. The former Quaker Steak & Lube building is now home to one of WNY’s most well-known Mexican restaurants. While QS is a weird PA chain restaurant, you have to admit the buildings are kind of cool, perfect for a Deep South taco stop.

READ MOREAny brewpub owner will tell you that the best way to boost the bottom line of a restaurant is to brew your own beer. I remember when Pearl Street Grill & Brewery opened up back in the day. At the time, I thought to myself, that the place was going to make a killing, because it was brewing its own beer, which was slashing wholesale costs at the bar. The idea of having your own micro brewery is also pretty sexy. Between the cool looking tanks, the ability to switch up brews at any given whim, and the local appeal that comes along with it, there is not much downside to brewing in-house, if you have the space to do it.

I must admit that when it comes to Boy Scout rituals, I am a bit in the dark. That’s why, when a friend of mine told me about his son’s unique efforts to earn his Eagle Badge, I was rather impressed. You see, most Boy Scouts earn this ultimate merit badge by building or constructing a tangible object – a small bridge, a playground structure, etc. The idea is to build something that will benefit a community, or a neighborhood. My friend’s son, Christian Hamilton, a sophomore at Canisius, decided that he wanted to go a different route.
